Williams was born 3 september 1986 in magere ,Auckland.He is a samoan and fijian descent .He attented weymouth intermediate school in weymouth ,south Auckland .He compares his upbringing to that of the jackson of 5 family ,as his father was very strict when it came to devoting  yourself  to religion and music . J williams has two older sisters called emily willams and lavina williams who had both entered the Australia IDOL .


Williams is a member of the hip hop street dance group originally called Dzaih ,but now know as as prestige .In 2006 Dzaih represented New Zealand at the world hip hop dance  championships held in las vegas ,u.s .They came in second place to the currentd champs ,the philippine all stars had took home the silver medal.In 2008 at the same compitition ,this time under the the name prestige ,they came fourth plave ,norrowly missing out on the bronze medal .
